If President Obama visits your garage, you better have something important to talk about.
Following the mass murdering of nine black people at Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church at the hands of 21-year-old Dylann Roof, the Commander-in-Chief discussed America’s stain of racism and lack of gun control with comedian Marc Maron on his WTF podcast. In what some consider a shocking moment of the conversation, Obama mentioned the n-word.
“Racism, we are not cured of it. And it’s not just a matter of it not being polite to say n—-r in public,” he said. “That’s not the measure of whether racism still exists or not. It’s not just a matter of overt discrimination. Societies don’t, overnight, completely erase everything that happened 200 to 300 years prior.”

For a podcast being recorded in a cluttered space of Maron’s Pasadena home, the talk was filled with pertinent topics, including the comparison of mass violent acts in America to that of other developing countries. Circling back around to gun control, Obama also shared his personal disgust with Congress’ reaction to the mass killing of first-grade students in Newtown, Connecticut back in 2012.
“I will tell you, right after Sandy Hook, Newtown, when 20 six-year-olds are gunned down, and Congress literally does nothing — yes, that’s the closest I came to feeling disgusted,” he said. “I was pretty disgusted.”
