The obituary of Dr. Jeffrey H. Cohen is circulating the web. Below the long and lighthearted description of a Pennsylvania chiropractor’s 70 years of life, strangers join family and friends in sharing their condolences and their intents to fulfill his last wishes. “Jeffrey would ask that in lieu of flowers, please do not vote for Donald Trump.”
Cohen seemed like quite a character, according to his obituary. Liza Minnelli and Fred Rogers were regular clients, as well as ballerinas, Olympians, musicians, Pittsburgh Steelers, and “Weird Al” Yankovic. He is illustrated as “a voracious teller of jokes of all kinds, especially dirty and groan-inducing ones. He had a great smile and all his teeth were still his.” Those who commented expressed the impact Cohen had on their lives and now on the upcoming presidential election.
“If he knew he was contributing to national discussion in this way, with so many laughs and a good sense of humor, I think it would have made him super happy and tickled to be part of it that way,” said Cohen’s son, Jason Brown to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Brown and his brother were the ones to suggest the Trump bit while submitting the obituary to the funeral home. “My brother had found a similar request online about Hillary Clinton.” Cohen’s humor inspired an edgy note. To make an actual request for his father though, Brown had only Cohen’s attitudes towards the controversial Trump as a clue to who the chiropractor might want to take a knock at. Brown told the Post-Gazette, “We said we knew what we should put for dad. … To him, it would be the perfect joke.”
