Last week, 20-year-old Patience Carter shared her account of the Orlando shooting massacre that left more than 100 victims at Pulse nightclub either dead, or injured.
The details were chilling: smears of blood on the walls bodies and faces of the victims, piles of corpses everywhere, and the pain of watching “souls leave their bodies.”
Carter also claimed shooter, Omar Mateen, tried not to target Black clubgoers— even though Carter herself is black, and was shot in the leg, while her friend was killed.
Her recollection was crisp, and the story itself was horrific. But that didn’t stop conspiracy theorist from concluding that the Philly native, and former intern at Fox News affiliate WTFX, was actually a “crisis actor.”
Carter addressed the rumor on Instagram Saturday (June 18) to announce that she’s officially discharged from the hospital. “Thank you to all of the supporters who reached out to me and my family, and thank you to all the skeptics that believe my pain isn’t real,” she wrote. “It’s your outrageous insensitivity that makes me want to heal even faster, and grow even stronger.”
The rumor that Carter didn’t actually get shot plays into a larger conspiracy theory that the worst mass shooting in American history was actually a government hoax.
