The FBI and NYPD have released a photo of 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami who they believe is connected to Saturday night’s bombing in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood. About 30 people were treated for injuries related to the explosion, and released the same day.
Rahami, a New Jersey resident, is described as 5’6 and weighs 200 pounds with brown hair and eyes, and per the FBI, should be considered “armed and dangerous.” de Blasio implored anyone with information about the explosion that occurred on West 23rd Street in Manhattan to call 1-800-577-TIPS.
“The important thing is to get this individual quickly and to continue to be strong and vigilant,” de Blasio tweeted. Born January 23, 1988, Rahami is a U.S. citizen who was born in Afghanistan. According to reports, his last known address is in Elizabeth, NJ.
de Blasio spoke less than 12 hours after five explosive devises–including a pipe bomb–were found in backpack late Sunday night (Sept. 18) near the Amtrak and commuter train station in Elizabeth. A FBI team used a robot to deactivate one of the bombs when it inadvertently went off. No one was hurt.
“We need the facts to be able to piece all this together and to find, was it an individual, was it more than one individual, do these different incidents relate,” de Blasio said on CNN. “I think we’re going to know a lot more in the course of today. Things are moving very quickly, and certainly we’re going to have a lot more to say in just the next coming hours.”
