It’s lit: President Obama has a Twitter account.
Not to be confused with @BarackObama, the page run by his community organizing staff, Obama finally has a page that he runs himself. Dubbed @POTUS, the new page will serve as the “official government account of the President of the United States,” meaning the user will presumably rotate.
Welcome @POTUS, the official government account of the President of the United States.

Opting for a simple bio, “Dad, husband, and 44th President of the United States,” Obama greeted the masses by noting the fact that this wonderful addition was enacted after six years of his presidency:
Hello, Twitter! It’s Barack. Really! Six years in, they’re finally giving me my own account. — President Obama (@POTUS) May 18, 2015
As to who President Obama is following, they’re a bunch of political folks, but POTUS also made a point to follow all of Chicago’s sports teams (minus the Cubs). It looks as though Bill Clinton has his eyes on the account – for a friend. And Obama had the perfect reply:
Good question, @billclinton. The handle comes with the house. Know anyone interested in @FLOTUS?

It’s no surprise Obama’s gotten over one million followers in less than 12 hours.
