Dequante Hobbs Jr was seated at his kitchen table in Louisville, KY when a stray bullet hit him in his neck and killed him. Now Louisville, KY police are investigating the shooting that killed a 7-year-old boy. Micheshia Norment, Dequante’s mother, spoke with local outlets and said she tried to perform CPR on her son. Unfortunately the ambulance arrived too late and he died later that evening.
“They just shot through my window,” Norment said.
Overcome with shock and grief, Dequante’s aunt Jackee Partiee also spoke on the senseless act.
“You all take people’s lives like it’s nothing. Lives are precious. There very precious.”
Little Dequante, who was just about to finish first grade at Wellington Elementary School, was at the table with his mother and grandmother playing with a tablet when the stray bullet killed him. Police Lt. Emily McKinley confirmed Dequante was not the intended target.
“There was a group of people out in this backyard and a fight happened. Someone pulled a gun and fired shots,” she said. “Obviously, no one intended for a 7-year-old to be killed, but unfortunately, that’s where we are today, and I’m pleading for them to come forward.
Dequante was rushed to Norton’s Children’s Hospital where he later died Sunday evening. (May 20)
“If this doesn’t wake anybody up, then I don’t know what will,” Lt. McKinley said.
