A single mother who was five months pregnant with her fourth child was fatally shot by authorities Friday. (Oct. 21) Renee Davis, 23, battled depression and texted a friend earlier that day asking for help. The unidentified friend then called police in hopes they would ensure Davis’ safety and that she was managing well.
“It’s really upsetting because it was a wellness check,” Davis’ foster sister Danielle Bargala said. “Obviously she didn’t come out of it well.”
The tragic incident occurred in Auburn, Washington with several members of King County sheriff’s deputies responding to Davis’ home on Muckleshoot tribal land.
According to authorities, law enforcement arrived at Davis’ house at about 6:30PM and knocked repeatedly on the door. However, no one came to and police say they saw small children running around. Bargala said the children, ages 2 and 3 years old, belong to Davis. Her oldest, a 5-year-old, was with a family friend.
Sgt. Cindi West spoke with a local news outlet and said when police finally entered Davis’ home, she was holding a handgun. Bargala said she didn’t know Davis owned a handgun, but rather a hunting riffle as she enjoyed the sport. It was at that time police fired multiple shots killing Davis.
Bargala said her foster sister is gentle and said the family is now in the process of figuring out where her three children will go. The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave while detectives investigate what led to the tragic event.
