After 25 years, conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is reportedly considering stepping down from his position following the November 2016 election.
Per The Washington Examiner, the 67-year-0ld justice has been contemplating retirement for a while, and never intended to remain a justice until his death.
However, in a sharply refuted Facebook post, Thomas’ wife Ginni said the claims her husband is retiring are simply not true.
“For all those who are contacting me about the possibility of my husband retiring, I say — unsubscribe from those false news sources and carry on with your busy lives. IT. IS. BOGUS!”
Justice Thomas was appointed to his position in 1991 by President H.W.Bush replacing Justice Thurgood Marshall. If Thomas does retire, that will make two vacant positions in one year. The first came after conservative and controversial Justice Antonin Scalia died in February. President Obama nominated Merrick Garland to fill the role, but the Republicans refused to allow a confirmation vote.
