The father of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee who was lured from his South Side Chicago home and murdered was charged Monday (March 14) with shooting three people hours after new details emerged surrounding the killing of his son, The New York Daily News reports.
Pierre Stokes, 25, shot the girlfriend of one of the three men charged in Tyshawn’s death as well as two other men, according to court documents released by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Investigators say Stokes pointed his gun at Corey Morgan’s girlfriend and yelled “I’m going to kill you b—h.” Morgan’s 29-year-old girlfriend suffered non-life threatening injuries, as the bullet grazed her face. The other two men were wounded but are expected to be okay.
The shooting took place at 5:45pm at a Shell Gas Station on S. Ashland Avenue just hours after investigators said the three men involved with Tyshawn’s murder planned to kidnap and torture him by cutting off his ears and fingers before killing him. Stokes was arrested and charged Friday (March 11) with aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
“Mr. Stokes, who was involved in a gang lifestyle, ultimately suffered an unspeakable loss with the calculated execution of his son,” Chicago Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. “Despite this, he continued to engage in the same gang activity that started this initial cycle of violence.”
Police say 27 year old Morgan, 22 year old Dwight–Boone Doty and 22 year old Kevin Edwards murdered little Tyshawn on November 2. Edwards is the only one of the trio not arrested and charged.
“Tyshawn was an innocent child betrayed by these three men,” Chicago Police Department Superintendent John Escalante said in a press conference. “And sadly he paid the ultimate price for gang violence, senseless gang violence, that plagued his neighborhood.”
Four people identified Stokes as the shooter and camera footage from the Shell Gaston corroborates. A judge ordered Stokes held without bond and his next hearing is April 4.
