A gunman opened fire on a reporter and videographer in Virginia on Wednesday morning (Aug. 26), leaving them both dead, CBS News reports. During a report for CBS affiliate WDBJ-TV, 24-year-old Alison Parker, and 27-year-old Adam Ward were taping a broadcast at Bridgewater Plaza in Moneta, when the shooter interrupted the report with approximately six shots. The incident occurred at 6:45 a.m, according to Franklin County Sheriff Department’s Spokesperson Phillip Young.
WDBJ-TV general manager Jeff Marks confirmed the passing of the two employees. Following the shooting, police were in search of the gunman, placing nearby schools on lockdown. The announcement was made from the school district’s Facebook page. Parker was interviewing Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce Vicki Garnder. No update has been given on her condition.
