On Sunday (May 1), social media users collectively typed with glee after learning that Malia Obama plans to start her collegiate career at Harvard University. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama’s oldest daughter went on an extensive college tour over the course of 2015, and landed on selecting the Cambridge, Mass., school.
With Malia’s parents and sister Sasha remaining in Washington, D.C. until the latter finishes high school, Obama shared his touching thoughts on seeing his daughter go off to college in the near future.
“I’m going to miss her terribly. But she is well-prepared, she is going to do great things — and as Michelle reminds us, our job is to make sure they don’t need us anymore,” the leader of the free world told WKRC.
Malia, 17, plans to take a gap year before beginning her freshman semester in 2017. She’ll also follow in her parents’ footsteps who also attended Harvard for their law program. We wonder if Malia will pursue a future in law or politics as well.
