As Americans watched Donald Trump take the lead, and eventually clench the 270 electoral votes needed to become president, Canada’s immigration website crashed, with visitors seeing a “500 – Internal server error” message Tuesday night. (Nov. 8)
Spokeswoman for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, Lisa Flipps said the website was “temporarily inaccessible to users as a result of a significant increase in the volume of traffic.” Teams began working to resolve the issue and by Wednesday morning (Nov. 9) the site was up and running.
Flipps tells CNN there’s no way to prove that election had anything to do with Canada’s site crashing, but ever since Trump entered the political race talk of moving to Canada has been an on-going joke. City of Toronto Councillor Norm Kelly took to Twitter to post a screenshot of his Direct Messages to show just how serious a few were.
