Donald Trump tweeted #FreeRocky during a rant against Sweden Thursday (July 25), as the country continues to refuse to release ASAP Rocky from jail.
After an unsuccessful attempt at getting the rapper out of a custody in Sweden, where he is being held on an assault charge, Trump resorted to ranting against Sweden’s prime minister.
“Very disappointed in Prime Minister Stefan Löfven for being unable to act,” he tweeted in reference to Swedish law that prohibits the country’s government from interfering with its judicial system. He followed-up by claiming that Sweden’s treatment of the 30-year-old rapper has “let down our African American community in the United States.”
“I watched the tapes of A$AP Rocky and he was being followed and harassed by troublemakers,” Trump wrote about the altercation that led to Rocky’s arrest. Trump called on the country to “treat Americans fairly” and wrapped up his tweet by using the #FreeRocky hashtag. Growing seemingly more agitated in a second tweet Trump wrote, “Give A$AP Rocky his FREEDOM.” He added that the U.S. does “so much” for Sweden, “but it doesn’t seem to work the other way around.”
Trump’s social media tantrum comes about two weeks after he was blasted as a racist, this time for targeting a group of female lawmakers, and days after reports surfaced about him pitching a “blacks vs. whites” installment of The Apprentice to NBC in 2005.
Obviously, Trump can’t do anything to get Rocky out of jail but he’s not above pretending that he’s somehow a hero in the situation. As for Rocky, he was officially charged with assault Thursday (July 25) for fighting a group of guys who taunted and attacked his entourage during an incident late last month. The Harlem native maintains that he acted in self-defense but public prosecutor, Daniel Suneson, has a different perspective on the case.
“I have today commenced criminal proceedings against the three individuals suspected of assault causing actual bodily harm, having come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime and despite claims of self-defense and provocation,” Suneson said Thursday according to NBC News.
A trial is scheduled to begin on July 30, Rocky’s lawyer, Slobodan Jovicic, announced at a press conference.

Give A$AP Rocky his FREEDOM. We do so much for Sweden but it doesn’t seem to work the other way around. Sweden should focus on its real crime problem! #FreeRocky
