Was it a major typo or an evil scheme by someone who strongly dislikes president-elect Donald Trump? The world may never know. It came as a surprise over the holiday weekend when people googled the businessman’s fixture “Trump Tower” and “Dump Tower” popped up as a result.
Pix11 reports the error was corrected by the company on Monday (Nov. 28). When googling “Trump Tower” located on Fifth Ave in New York, “Dump Tower” appeared. “Dump” more than likely refers to the saying “Dump Trump,” which gained popularity during the president-elect’s campaign.
The Trump Tower wasn’t the only building to have its name changed. The Trump International Hotel & Tower in Columbus Circle was also renamed to Dump International Hotel & Tower.
Google also released a statement about the presumptive joke. “Some inappropriate names were surfacing in Google Maps that should not be, and we apologize for any offense this may have caused,” the statement reads. “Our teams immediately took action and have fixed the issue.” Third party sites hold some responsibility in Google Map Maker, but changes are always vetted before going live.
Trump hasn’t shared any reactions on the situation so far.
