The young girl who went viral for her awestruck expression of Michelle Obama‘s portrait paid homage to the former first lady by dressing up as her for Halloween.
In March, a then-2-year-old Parker Curry was photographed at the National Photo Gallery staring at Amy Sherald’s portrait of Michelle Obama. The photo received 27,000 likes and 36,000 re-shares on Facebook.
Not too long after that, Buzzfeed spoke with Jessica Curry, the toddler’s mother, who said, “In the world, we live in today, I’m just trying to raise a little girl who has opportunities to see women who look like her doing great things.”
Obama eventually invited Parker and her family to a mini-dance party and tweeted, “Keep on dreaming big for yourself…and maybe one day I’ll proudly look up at a portrait of you!”
With Halloween around the corner, Curry told Buzzfeed that when she asked her daughter what she wanted to be, it was Michelle Obama without any hesitation. She was able to contact a woman named Alisha Welsh who runs a company called Magnolia Lake Children’s Clothing. They offered to make Parker her very own replication at the time of the young child going viral.
The best part? Obama co-signed the costume. Curry posted the image on Twitter with the caption: “Happy #Halloween! Can you guess who I am?” to which Obama retweeted, saying, “You nailed the look, Parker! I love it!!!!”
