Fox News has a habit of getting under the skin of many, the Leader of the Free World included.
During a poverty summit with Catholic and Evangelical leaders at Washington, D.C.’s Georgetown University, President Obama addressed how faith groups could help change the dialogue surrounding poverty and policies put in place to address it. The discussion couldn’t go without spotlighting the way media communicates the subject to the public.
Over time, he argued, the media has made great efforts to either get people mad at those at the top of the totem pole or those at the bottom. “The effort to suggest that the poor are sponges, leeches, don’t want to work, are lazy, are undeserving, got traction. It’s still being propagated,” he said. Prez wasn’t afraid to name names. “If you watch Fox News on a regular basis, it is a constant menu. That becomes an entire narrative that gets worked up… Very rarely do you hear an interview of a waitress, which is much more typical, who is raising a couple of kids and she’s doing everything right, but still can’t pay the bills.”
