New York is due for a governor and for the past 17 years, Andrew Cuomo has held that position. Challenging his seat is former Sex and The City star, activist and New York native Cynthia Nixon.
This Thursday (Sept. 13) New Yorkers will decide who will be the Democratic candidate. While Cuomo has been endorsed by former Sec. Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, Nixon has received backing from Bernie Sanders and the Working Families Party.
Nixon’s campaign urges for the end of cash bail, eliminating I.C.E and legalizing marijuana. Most notably, the 52-year-old stated that the legalizing of the recreational drug is foremost a racial justice issue.
“People across all ethnic-racial lines use marijuana at roughly the same rates but the arrests for marijuana are 80 percent black and Latino. We need to not only legalize marijuana here but when this multi-billion dollar industry comes to New York we need to prioritize the individuals and the communities that have been most harmed by the war on drugs.”
Nixon’s comments earned her praise, especially from The King. T.I. saw the short clip and took to Twitter inviting her to the cookout.
Thanks for the support, @Tip! BTW: My name is Cynthia, and I am going to be the next Governor of New York. Please encourage your friends out here in the Empire State to vote this Thursday, 9/13! https://t.co/jd5x6gQP5B

“I have no idea who this brilliant lady is, but she’s invited to my next bbq/family gathering, and if she’s running for anything ANYTHING, I say, she’s got my vote.” Tip tweeted.
Nixon got wind of T.I’s comment and thanked him for his kind words. “Thanks for the support Tip, by the way, my name is Cynthia and I’m going to be the next governor of New York.”
