A celebrity pastry chef from Detroit named Duff Goldman sent out an eyebrow-raising tweet over the weekend, where he claimed that the cake for Donald Trump’s inauguration looked exactly like the cake he had designed for the 2013 inauguration of Barack Obama.
It turns out that the company who made Trump’s cake, Buttercream Bakeshop, was asked to make a carbon copy of the Obama cake, reports the NY Daily News.
“While we most love creating original designs, when we are asked to replicate someone else’s work we are thrilled when it is a masterpiece like this one,” someone from the company originally told TMZ.
“Goldman’s inauguration cake was a dazzling nine-tier creation with a red striped 18-inch base engraved with the presidential seal,” wrote the Daily News of the presidential pastry. “It was decked out with blue stars attached to wires bursting from the top and every tier contained its own explosion of flavor, including one with red velvet cake glazed in cream cheese frosting and another one with lemon-poppy and pineapple cake topped with Swiss buttercream frosting.”
“The cake on the left is the one I made for President Obama’s inauguration 4 years ago,” tweeted Goldman this past weekend about the cakes. “The one on the right is Trumps. I didn’t make it,” he wrote, followed by a thinking emoji. However, he made sure to shout out Buttercream Bakeshop in a later tweet for their good work on the replica.
