The media personality and author told Lil Boat exactly how he and a few other people seem to feel about him (around the 16:30 mark).
“You are the poster child for wack rappers,” Tha God told the young MC, who was immediately caught off guard. “If they want to say somebody’s wack, they say you.”
“It was Trinidad James at one point,” he continued, as he explained that the “All Gold Everything” musician was the hot back musician before Yachty. “As far as being the poster child for when people who wanna say what’s wrong with hip-hop…it’s a generational thing.”
“That’s crazy! We’re in two different lanes, me and Trinidad James,” said Yachty, who clearly sounds disappointed. “To even say that I took his spot…just to sit here and hear you put me in Trinidad James’ spot of the ‘shine of being terrible,’ I don’t think I’ma claim that.”
DJ Envy tries to defend the 19-year-old, saying that “the youth love him,” but Charlamagne says he appeals to a “fickle fanbase” of teenagers.
However, there is one thing that Yachty and Charlamagne agree on: that Yachty is the “father figure” for the new wave of young rappers.
“For the youngins, absolutely,” says Charlamagne.
