The death of former Knicks forward Anthony Mason has not gone unnoticed. According to The Root, a street sign has been erected in Mason’s name in his hometown of Jamaica, Queens. Giving credence to the term “hometown hero,” friends and family of the late basketball star gathered around the corner of 147th Street at Rockaway Boulevard, which was rechristened as “Anthony Mason Way.”

“He used to shoot, shoot, shoot all the time at night. And he said when the daylight came it was easier,” said his son, Antoine Mason. “He kept working in his craft, kept working in his craft, and eventually he made it.” Anthony Mason died of congestive heart failure last year at the age 48.
