The tumultuous relationship of WNBA stars Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson took another unfortunate turn. A judge has denied the request by Griner for annulment of the couple’s marriage, according to People. Griner filed the petition back in June–just 28 days after she exchanged “I do’s.”
The confirmation of Griner’s decision to annul their union came immediately after Johnson’s announcement that she is pregnant. Their wedding ceremony followed a domestic violence dispute that occurred between Johnson and Griner six weeks prior. According to Griner, she “attempted to postpone the wedding several times” before her decision to annul, and that Johnson was secretly in contact with an ex. The Tulsa Shock forward, who is carrying twins, took to Instagram following the denying of the annulment.

In a sit-down with ESPN following the filing of the annulment, Griner emotionally relayed her doubt that she and Johnson could have maintained a healthy relationship.
“Prior to us getting married, I knew I shouldn’t have went through with it and I talked to Glory about it but sometimes, you feel pressured into things,” she told Kate Fagan. “With everything going on — counseling, classes — it just wasn’t the right way to start off a marriage.”
Last month, Johnson requested $20,000 in child support and $10,000 in spousal support from Griner, citing Griner’s “far superior control” over their finances. Johnson also recently told People that she was “thankful the annulment was rejected because an act of marriage did occur.”
“Together we made life changing decisions which impacted our lives collectively,” she said. “And we both should be held responsible for those decisions.”
