Nobody wants a relationship to fall apart, but sometimes, things happen. Unfortunately for Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson, the two WNBA ballers are sorting out their very turbulent marriage in the public eye.
In a short span of time, the pair has experienced blissful love, domestic violence, marriage, pregnancy and a pending annulment. As the masses gawk at what looks like a train wreck—the marriage only lasted for 28 days—they’re forgetting how hard the changes are for the actual couple to stomach.
Griner tearfully opened up to ESPN‘s Kate Fagan to talk about their split, the mistakes made leading up to their separation and whether or not Glory’s pregnancy announcement was a surprise to her. “Prior to us getting married, I knew I shouldn’t have went through with it and I talked to Glory about it but sometimes, you feel pressured into things,” she told Fagan. “With everything going on — counseling, classes — it just wasn’t the right way to start off a marriage.”
According to Griner, both she and her wife have agreed to continue with a divorce/annulment. As far as the pregnancy, Griner says that while she knew about Glory’s pregnancy, she was shocked by how soon she announced it to the world. “I was definitely surprised,” she said. “It’s too early to post or say anything about it, and I was surprised.”
When Fagan asked how Griner would describe the last 10 months, all she could get out was “emotional” before sobbing quietly. Watch the interview up top.
