New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony is the latest athlete to use his voice to spark change following the deaths of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, and the five officers in Dallas, Texas.
Anthony took to his Instagram account to call on his fellow pro athletes to not remain silent during this time, but to join the thousands of Americans across the country in the fight for equality in the eyes of the law.
“There’s NO more sitting back and being afraid of tackling and addressing political issues anymore,” he writes. “Those days are long gone. We have to step up and take charge.”
The New York native continued to state that athletes shouldn’t fear the loss of their partnerships with mega corporations. “We can’t worry about what endorsements we gonna lose or whose going to look at us crazy. I need your voices to be heard. We can demand change. We just have to be willing to. THE TIME IS NOW. IM all in. Take Charge. Take Action. DEMAND CHANGE.”
Other pros also took to their social media platforms to let their voices be heard:
Another black man killed
Another young black kid without a dad
Think about that for a second.
