Who needs (yet another) “Crying Jordan” meme? Former baller/TNT sports analyst Charles Barkley gave the Internet a reaction that is one for the books. After the buzzer beating three-point shot by Villanova’s Kris Jenkins gave the college team its first NCAA Tournament win since 1985, Barkley can be seen jumping out of his chair and running around screaming like the proudest Auntie.
There were rumors swirling that Barkley cheered for Villanova’s win because it was Michael Jordan’s alma mater that lost in the end. The two are not on the friendliest of terms due to Barkley’s criticism of Air Jordan’s ownership of the Charlotte Hornets. However, Barkley said his reaction is due to his family history; his daughter graduated from ‘Nova.
“My daughter was living and dying with every game for the last three weeks, so I was really more excited for her, to be honest with you,” the commentator told USA Today Sports. “She’s been going to a Villanova bar in New York City every game. She didn’t even want to come to the game because she didn’t want to jinx the game.”
Even though his Tar Heels lost the nail-biting game (77-74), Jordan was a good sport. He was seen in the stands saying “good shot” after the three-point basket by Jenkins sealed the victory for the Wildcats.
