Charles Barkley has a history of making controversial statements. When it comes to the topic of the highly-anticipated Space Jam 2 film, his opinions seem to yet again clash with the public and NBA fans alike. During this year’s NBA Awards in Los Angeles, Barkley shared with Entertainment Tonight his distaste for the forthcoming film.
“Not at all,” he replied when asked if he supports Space Jam 2. “Well, listen, I don’t care,” he continued. “Space Jam 1 was amazing. We don’t need 2.”
Amid his strong feelings, the movie is still being made and will star LeBron James. Reportedly, other cast members are being recruited for the project. According to Men’s Journal, Michael Jordan wants Los Angeles Clippers player Blake Griffin to be featured.
Griffin told reporters he’s down to join the cast since he’s a fan of the classic.
“Absolutely, absolutely. I’d love to be involved in any capacity, really. Space Jam was a huge part of my childhood. I actually had a Space Jam-themed birthday party as a teen,” he said. “Then, when I turned 21, my friends got me a Space Jam cake again just to re-live the glory days…. If you told me when I was 8 years old that I could possibly have a chance to be in Space Jam 2, it would have blown my mind. That would just be like another check off the bucket list.”
Players like Klay Thompson, Nneka Ogwumike, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, and Diana Taurasi are set to appear in Space Jam 2, Complex reports. Time will tell who will make the film’s roster. But one thing is for sure, James is elated about making the film.
Man this really just hit me! I’m really shooting Space Jam 2!! This is so surreal and doesn’t even make sense to me! Where I come from man and what I saw growing up this doesn’t add up to me! 🤦🏾♂️! I’m truly grateful and beyond blessed. This is CRAZINESS. 🏀 🐰 🎥 👑🙏🏾
