Former Jets running back Chris Johnson was shot early this morning (Mar. 8) in Orlando in a drive-by shooting that left one dead. Hit in the shoulder, the NFL player is currently being hospitalized.
Johnson, 29, was a passenger in a Jeep near the Florida Mall when an unknown shooter opened fire on his vehicle at a red light. The driver, identified as Dreekins Oricko Johnson, 28, was killed, while a third passenger, Reggie Johnson, was shot in the shoulder, hand and leg, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
Johnson will become an NFL free agent on Tuesday (Mar. 10) as the Jets opted out of his contract for 2015. Back in January, he was arrested for the opening carrying of a firearm, ESPN reports.
Police have not arrested a suspect in today’s shooting.
