Ahh Black Twitter. What would the world ever do without you?
Thursday night (Sept. 1) Colin Kaepernick continued to rack up points from his supporters as he entered Qualcomm Stadium, home of the San Diego Chargers, sporting what can only be described as one of the NFL’s most luminous and luxurious Afros.
With the sun rays highlighting his beautiful tresses, it appears as if Kaepernick dipped not only his whole head, but his life, into a bottle of coconut oil. Black Twitter just couldn’t let Kaepernick’s ‘fro go to waste without documenting it in traditional Black Twitter fashion, which is why #KapSoBlack was birthed.

For seven whole days, the San Francisco 49er has been at the center of media attention, which in the age of the Internet is almost two lifetimes. After refusing to stand during the National Anthem at last week’s game against the Green Bay Packers, the 28-year-old quarterback has become either a symbol of courage and pride for some, or considered to be unpatriotic by others.
Thursday night, Kaepernick continued to make his petition known. However, instead of sitting during the singing of the National Anthem, he, along with safety Eric Reid have now decided to take a knee as a way to honor the men and women of the military.
“We were talking to him about how can we get the message back on track and not take away from the military, not take away from pride in our country but keep the focus on what the issues really are,” Kaepernick said. “As we talked about it, we came up with taking a knee because there are issues that still need to be addressed and there was also a way to show more respect for the men and women that fight for this country.”
Kaepernick’s stance has merited the ire of many, including his birth mother Heidi Russo who boldly scolded Kaepernick on Twitter. However, Kaepernick has also earned the respect of legendary Olympian Tommie Smith who in 1968 raised his fist during the summer olympics.
Kap has vowed he won’t stand during the National Anthem until racial tensions in this country have been quelled to his liking, so until then, check out a few more of the #KapSoBlack tweets.
