On Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 19), New York Knicks player, Derrick Rose, was cleared of all charges in a rape lawsuit, the Associated Press reports. The two other co-defendants, identified as Ryan Allen and Randall Hampton, were also found not liable by the court.
“I am thankful that the jury understood and agreed with me,” Rose said in a statement. “This experience and my sensitivity to it was deep. I am ready to put this behind me and focus on my family and career.”
The August 13 case involved a woman who claimed Rose and his two friends gang raped her while she was “drunk and incapable of consenting to sex,” the AP states. Initially, the woman filed a $21.5 million lawsuit.
Following the verdict, Rose’s lawyer, Mark Baute, slammed the media’s reporting on the case, stating that outlets were “biased against black men and black athletes.”
Baute said media coverage was “biased against black men and black athletes” and praised all white and Hispanic jury.
