Before Floyd Mayweather can fight Manny Pacquiao, he needs to take out some insurance.
In a recent report from Daily Mail, Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, reveals that Mayweather is requesting a rematch clause in his consideration of whether or not the fight will go down. And Roach is not opposed, seeing as how the bout would likely be the most-watched boxing match ever.
“My understanding is that Floyd is insisting on the re-match if Manny beats him, which I believe he will. That’s okay with us,” Roach said.
This would not be the first time Mayweather has insisted on a rematch clause in a fight contract. Back in 2013, the champ made a similar request of Robert Guerrero for their match at the MGM Grand. He, of course, didn’t need the rematch however, beating out Guerrero in a unanimous decision. But clause or not, it seems Pacquiao is ready. Following his fight against Algeri on Saturday (Nov. 22), the Filipino fighter sang the same tune he’s been singing.
“It’s time to make that fight happen. It’s been a long time. I want that fight. They’re always denying the fight. I think the fight has to happen.”
If Mayweather vs. Pacquiao actually makes it to a pay-per-view near you, it will possibly gross upwards of $200 million dollars. That should be attractive to The Money Team.
