Whether in or out of the ring, Floyd Mayweather always manages to draw attention.
With his upcoming fight against Juan Manuel Marquez quickly approaching, the boastful boxer announced this week that WWE wrestler Triple H will accompany him to the ring on Saturday (September 19), when he fights at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Mayweather says he couldn’t think of anyone better to escort him for his return to the sport.
“Triple H is one of the greatest guys in the world and represents a whole universe of WWE fans that appreciate what he does,” the undefeated boxer said. “He and his stature are huge and I can’t think of a better person to escort me to the ring for my return to boxing.”
“It is an honor to walk the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world back into the ring,” said Triple H. “Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather has shown WWE tremendous support and it is my pleasure to return the favor this Saturday by standing at his side as he defeats Marquez in what I am sure will be boxing’s fight of the year.”
Mayweather is known for his creative ring walks, including past performances by 50 Cent and his former Dancing With the Stars costars Helio Castroneves, Wayne Newton and Mark Cuban. On another occasion, he was carried to the ring while standing aloft a Roman emperor’s throne and brought to the ring by a six-man drawn chariot.
Always accompanied by music of his own choosing, Mayweather’s past selections have used Bruce Springstein’s “Born in the U.S.A.,” 50 Cent’s “Straight to the Bank” and “Whip Your Head Boy,” Jay-Z’s “What More Can I Say,” Queen’s “We Will Rock You” and “Another One Bites the Dust.”
Saturday night’s song selection has not yet been revealed.
Mayweather and Marquez’s fight will air live on HBO Pay-Per-View.
