For every situation, there seems to be a Drake song or lyric that can somehow relate, and with the Golden State Warriors opening their season against the New Orleans Pelicans at home in the Oracle on Tuesday night (Oct. 27), it was absolutely no different.
Last season, the Warriors theme song was deemed “CoCo” by O.T. Genasis as many fans caught the crew on their whirlwind of a journey to the championship in numerous video clips across social media jamming to the 2014 hit. But this time around, the Dub’s look to go a more Drake-inspired route.
With the fittingly appropriate tune “Trophies” blaring throughout the arena, the 2015 NBA victors received their icy championship rings during the pregame ceremony and continued to set the Drizzy tone for the night. The team represented what a time to be a Golden State Warrior as they tapped into their inner “6 God” and Future Hendrix by rapping the “Big Rings” hit before tip-off.

The lyrics “I got a really big team, they need some really big rings” just seems to fit the occasion so perfectly as Steph Curry did some very Steph Curry-like things. He scored 40 points in leading the team to a 111-95 opening night victory over the Pelicans. Yes, he’s still got that hot hand and is very much still Steph Curry with the shot. The Warriors look to defend their title this year as they’ve shown it’s a new season and they are indeed still breathing. Oh, the Drake effect.
