Kevin Durant’s decision to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Golden State Warriors has been met with rampant criticism, especially from members of the basketballl/ NBA community.
Charles Barkley said on ESPN’s “Mike & Mike” radio show that he was disappointed in KD, and that he believes he switched to the Warriors to “cheat” his way to a ring.
“…disappointed with the fact that he weakened another team and he’s gonna kind of gravy train on a terrific Warriors team,” he said. “Just disappointed from a competitive standpoint.” Reggie Miller also stated that he believes Durant, who was a member of the OKC for nine seasons, took an “unnecessary shortcut” by joining the legendary team.
KD is speaking out against Barkley, Miller and other detractors of his decision, and assures fans that the support of them, his family and friends is really all that matters.
“They’ve got a voice in our game, and a lot of people probably felt the same way, but they don’t have a voice, so obviously what they say is translated through a megaphone, so it feels like everybody else (thinks that),” he said after a Team USA practice in Las Vegas.
“If Charles Barkley said it, it must be true. If Reggie Miller says it, it must be true. It just feels like it’s bigger than what it is. But for the most part, I got the support around me. I’ve got the family that supports me no matter what, that love me no matter what I do. I could be playing tennis right now, and I could retire from the game of basketball and they’re still going to love me. If I think about that, I’ll be fine.”
