If you happen to follow Kevin Durant on Twitter or Instagram, then it’s pretty obvious that he’s a huge fan of football and nothing comes before his team, the Washington Redskins. The love for his hometown team is very much real as Durant even spoke about the possibility of owning the Redskins someday.
During a recent interview with the folks over at the Fantasy Focus podcast, hosted by Matthew Berry, the Durantula spoke very keenly about his intentions with a team that is near and dear to him.
“It’s a passion of mine. I’d definitely love to own a team hopefully one of these years towards the end of my career. My first priority would be the Washington Redskins, even if it was just a small percentage,” Durant said. “So I follow it a lot.” Being a native of the D.C. area, Durant also spoke on why he feels so connected to his favorite NFL squad. “I just want to get involved. Growing up five minutes away from the stadium and always being a fan, I have a Redskins tattoo on my forearm. So I feel part of the team so much, so to be an owner and all the way entrenched with the team would be cool.”
Well only time will tell if Durant will indeed make moves on being the hometown hero, in an NFL sense, and with him set to make $20 million on the final year of his contract this season along with him already cashing in on nearly $89 million, according to basketball-reference.com. With those type of funds, a dream is looking more and more like reality sooner than later for the Oklahoma City Thunder star.
