Fans of LeBron James are attempting to have him become the new Secretary of Education, which means he would replace the totally-unqualified current Secretary, Betsy DeVos.
The NBA superstar recently announced the opening of his I Promise elementary school for at-risk youth in Akron, OH, and has shown time and time again he cares about the education system and wanting all children to succeed.
The petition, which has nearly 10,000 backers, calls James an “inspiration.” Adversely, DeVos’ tenure as a member of the Trump administration is given a less-than-glistening review.
DeVos is called “a scandal-ridden Republican donor who shows an inexcusable dislike for public education, wants to gut protections for women and minorities, and has advocated for teachers to be armed in schools.”
“[James is] a highly respected and extremely influential community advocate and activist who recently opened a state-of-the-art public school for at-risk children in Akron, Ohio — with community services on-site like job placement for parents, guaranteed college tuition for every student who graduates, and a score of other student services like a FREE bicycle and helmet,” the petition reads.
While it’s highly unlikely King James will leave his new team, the L.A. Lakers, to work for someone who insulted his intelligence on Twitter, we’re thrilled that he continues to use his platform for the good of the people, especially the young ones.
