It appears as though Matt Barnes is in trouble again. According to multiple outlets, the Sacramento Kings forward is wanted by the New York Police Department for allegedly choking a woman, and punching two others–a man and a woman–who tried to come to the choking woman’s aid.
According to TMZ, the physical altercation took place inside a Manhattan nightclub, but Barnes alleges he’s the victim, while USA Today reports an unnamed source has footage showing Barnes as the aggressor.
However, Barnes’ rep said the situation was blown out of proportion when the 6’7 athlete “butt bumped” the alleged victim who reacted by slapping the 37-year-old. Barnes rep says members of the woman’s entourage then attacked him, knocking him to the ground and choking him. According to Barnes’ side of the story, this was simply an act of self-defense.
“We do not believe a crime was committed and are hopeful no charges will be pressed,” Alex Spiro, an attorney for Barnes, told TMZ.
By the time authorities arrived Barnes left the scene, but allegedly has photos of bruises to show his innocence.
