Welp. That “done deal” for the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight was apparently a fluke.
Taking to Instagram in classic “Money Team” fashion, Floyd Mayweather shares a photo of himself posted up in Jamaica, with a caption that killed the dreams of his 4.6 million followers. Debunking reports that a deal had been reached in the highly-anticipated (and often deflated) match against Manny Pacquiao, the boxing champion referred to the supposed deal as a “lie.”
“Laying back, relaxing, enjoying good weather, palm trees and piña coladas,” he wrote. “While they continue to lie about making the fight… I’m just going to continue to travel and explore the world on my private jet. #FightNotMadeYet #Jamaica”
TMZ reported that Mayweather and Pacquiao’s negotiators were putting the “finishing touches” on their deal, and that a formal announcement of the fight would come “soon.” But it seems one half of said deal did not get the memo. While Pacquiao remains adamant that he can deliver the undefeated fighter his first “L,” Mayweather has not been as hard-pressed (except for this fight date proposal).
The upside? Mayweather did use the word “yet.”
