Prince’s influence was undeniable and seeped through your earbuds every time you played his one-of-a-kind melodies. Remaining a cultural and musical icon after his sudden passing on Thursday (Apr. 21), another revered figure is paying tribute to the “Darling Nikki” singer.
In a brief statement issued to TMZ Sports, Michael Jordan shared how Prince inspired him to be great within his career field. “Like so many people I am shocked at the news that Prince has died. In a world of creative performers, Prince was a genius,” he said. “His impact not just on music, but on culture, truly can’t be measured. His songs inspired me throughout my career and remind me of so many moments from my life.”
Like Jordan mentioned, “his greatness will live on through his music,” thousands of people across the globe commemorated Prince through dance and song. A Brooklyn block party was recently thrown by Spike Lee and networks like MTV and BET Jams played non-stop videos of The Purple One.
AMC also announced that Prince’s critically-acclaimed film Purple Rain will debut once again in theaters across the nation this weekend.
