As majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets, Michael Jordan seeks to reconnect the team with its community and take every opportunity to give back. Since he has taken over, the Hornets Swarm to Service Project has grown greatly and the visibility of the team’s positive affect on impoverished parts of Charlotte. On Monday (June 21), Jordan made another big move along this trend of philanthropic growth. He has reportedly invested $500,000 in charities that work toward literacy.
According to local news coverage, this money will not only go to charities, but will also fund the building and stocking of 18 libraries in preschools, child care centers, community centers and education nonprofits in low-income areas in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“I am very proud of the commitment of the organization to the community,” Jordan said. “My dedication, my drive, is to continue to connect with this community.”
