Iron Mike hasn’t had it easy, and the championship boxer let the world in on yet another reason why this is true.
Mike Tyson stopped by SiriusXM’s Opie’s Radio to promote his Adult Swim series Mike Tyson Mysteries last week. In the interview, Tyson revealed that he was the victim of sexual abuse at just seven years old. Sharing with the show’s hosts that the culprit was an “old man” who “snatched him off the street,” Tyson’s story caught Opie Hughes and Jim Norton off-guard.
“He abused you and just let you go or did you escape?” Norton asked, to which Tyson replied, “Well, I ran.”
Though he could not pinpoint whether he was “drastically changed” by the situation, Tyson’s admittance was a result of a discussion about his own “demons.” He asserted that the incident had caused him no shame.
“I’m not embarrassed or ashamed of anything from that perspective,” he said.
