Dr. Dre continues to quietly make boss moves. Today (Sept. 5), Dre, Jimmy Iovine and the NBA have announced their partnership with Beats by Dre with the premium headphone brand being the league’s official headphone device.
“Beats revolutionized the music industry and has become one of the most innovative and culturally influential brands in the world,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said via the press release. “Through our partnership, we have an exciting opportunity to merge sports, pop culture and technology to deliver unparalleled experiences and premium products to our fans.”
This isn’t surprising. The NBA and most of its players have close ties to the hip-hop community. LeBron James often makes videos of himself rapping his favorite songs. NBA ballers Damian Lillard, Iman Shumpert, Metta World Peace, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, among others have flirted with rap careers. And who can forget the classic Allen Iverson commercial with Jadakiss?
“The NBA and its players have long been significant drivers of global culture. Six-time NBA All-Star James Harden expressed his love for Beats by Dre as well.
