The Super Bowl isn’t the only sporting event where fans look forward to commercial breaks; NBA’s Christmas lineup also calls for new mid-game entertainment. This year’s top spots featured star-studded ads from State Farm, Nike and Samsung, who all brought their A-game to the holiday tradition.
State Farm introduced a new commercial series titled “The Hoopers” featuring a comical family of NBA stars: Chris Paul “Dad,” DeAndre Jordan as “Mom,” Kevin Garnett as “Grampa,” Kevin Love as “Son” and Damian Lillard as “Baby.” In the first episode of the series, “Robbed,” Jordan is the butt of a joke about the absence of championship rings, while Garnett wards off Lillards smelly diaper. In the next clip, “Hawks and Hornets,” Paul tries to give Love “the talk.”
Nike Basketball dropped off a mini-movie entitled “Bring Your Game,” where a group of basketball fans go on a search for their favorite player. Spending quality time with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Paul George, Anthony Davis, Elena Delle Donne, Lebron James and Kobe Bryant, the kids go inside of each player’s world to try and crown the winner of their contest. Clocking in at over five minutes, the video picked nearly two million YouTube views.
Samsung’s Christmas Day commercial might have taken the cake however, as they enlisted James for a new virtual reality partnership. Tapping Public Enemy’s “Welcome To The Terrordome” as the backdrop for the Samsung Gear VR spot, the Cavs star mouths the words to the classic while training, spitting Chuck D’s “Black to the bone my home is your home” line. Chuck D even took to Twitter to send his props.

The NBA also took the opportunity on Christmas Day to share their partnership with Everytown For Gun Safety, tapping Chris Paul, Joakim Noah, Carmelo Anthony and Stephen Curry to challenge the country’s stagnance on gun violence regulations. In the Spike Lee-directed clips, the basketball stars share their thoughts on the tragedies that have taken place as a result.
