“I was hoping Riley Curry would be here today!” President Barack Obama started his spiel off with to giggles. The 2015 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors were invited to the White House on Thursday (Feb. 4) for a night of praise and a bit of shade thrown at the top ballers by way of the POTUS.
“It is rare to be in the presence of guys from the greatest team in NBA history,” Obama said before dropping the gauntlet. “So we’re pretty lucky today, because we’ve got one of those players in the house: [Warriors coach] Steve Kerr, from the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls!”
He even brought Steph Curry into the mix to discuss his mastery of shooting before doing his very best impression of the Chef.
“[Stephen Curry] is a pretty good shooter. Heh. For those of you watched the game against the Wizards last night, he was, to use slang, he was clowning.”
Kerr took to the podium soon after and commended the President for his use of the word “clowning”.
“Although maybe Teddy Roosevelt used it somewhere in there. I don’t know,” he joked.
All in all, Obama’s speech was in good fun to celebrate the success of one of the best teams in the league. He was even gifted with his very own, personalized Warriors jersey.
