The Williams sisters advanced to the Australian Open final early Thursday morning (Jan. 26), setting up for their first grand slam finals matchup since the 2009 Wimbledon. Venus first took care of business by defeating fellow American CoCo Vandeweghe in a hard fought three set match, which was followed up by sister Serena cruising through her semi-final in straight sets.

“She’s my toughest opponent,” said Serena Williams, who has won 16 out of 27 matches against Venus. “No one has ever beaten me as much as Venus has. She has a pretty good record against me, and we have a good record against each other. I just feel like, no matter what happens, we’ve won. She’s been through a lot, and I’ve been through a lot. And to see her come back and do so well is great.”
At the end of Saturday, the Williams sisters will have 30 Grand Slam singles titles between them.

The Williams family will have 30 grand slam singles titles between them after Saturday’s Australian Open final. “This is probably the moment of our careers so far,” Serena told reporters. “For me, I can definitely say for me. I never lost hope for us being able to play each other in a (grand slam) final although it was hard because we’re usually on the same side of the draw.”
