Another historic moment for the books.
One of sports’ most groundbreaking athletes, Serena Williams, defeated Angelique Kerber (7-5, 6-3) in Saturday’s Wimbledon women’s final (July 9), spreading a wave of excitement across social media.
This feat ties Williams with Steffi Graf at 22 Grand Slam titles. In a post-game interview, Williams was nearly left speechless when recounting her win to ESPN. “It makes the victory even sweeter to know how hard I worked for it,” she said. “I don’t know what else to say. I’m so excited.”
Serena will take the court again this afternoon alongside her sister, Venus Williams, for the doubles title, NPR reports.
In the meantime, check out how social media users reacted to yet another historic win from the G.O.A.T.
