Spike TV is airing an hour-long tribute to Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson June 24, a few weeks after the MMA fighter’s unexpected passing at the age of 42. The special airs at 7 p.m., before the “Dynamite 2” event, which will be broadcast from St. Louis.
Spike TV was supposed to air Slice’s fight against James Thompson at Bellator 158 July 16, however, it’s been reported Slice pulled out of the fight due to health issues.
Slice passed away June 6 due to heart failure. ESPN reports the fighter was awaiting a heart transplant at the time of his death. He was admitted to the hospital three days prior to his death with complaints of “severe abdominal pain, shortness of breath and nausea.”
The UFC released a statement on Slice after his passing, saying “While he will never be forgotten for his fighting style and transcendent image, Slice will also be remembered for his warm personality and commitment to his family and friends.”
