A film based on Serena and Venus Williams’ father, Richard Williams, has found its stars to play the tennis titans in their youth. According to Deadline, Fences’ Saniyya Sidney and Godfather of Harlem’s Demi Singleton will play Venus and Serena, respectively.
The biopic will also star Will Smith as the father who helped to coach his daughters to become the world’s top professional athletes and dominate a sport that is centuries old. The film will depict Mr. Williams’ skills and methods in instilling a fighting spirit within his daughters as they faced many obstacles throughout their career.
Recently Serena Williams won the Auckland Classic, defeating New Zealand’s Jessica Pegula (6-3, 6-4). The 38-year-old shared that she would donate her prize money to help battle the bushfire in Australia. Per The Guardian, Williams said, “I feel fortunate and blessed to be out here and to be healthy and to play. I have been playing for so long and been through so much and I’m happy to be doing something I love.”
King Richard will meet its theatrical debut on Nov. 25.
