10 Rap Crews That Need A Reality Show

May 16, 2013 - 4:10 pm by Chris Yuscavage

The Goodie Mob reunion is really happening. Although there've been rumors surrounding the group's reunion for years, we know it's real this time because Cee Lo signed on to film a new reality TV show called The Cee Lo Life for TBS. And as part of the deal, he agreed to allow the Atlanta-based network to showcase him and his crew as they record their long-awaited forthcoming album, Age Against the Machine. So Cee Lo, Big Gipp, Khujo, and T-Mo will all be a part of the show.

We like the idea of Goodie Mob doing a reality show, if for no other reason than it proves that they're actually reuniting. But there are some other rap crews that would be way more entertaining on a reality show. Here, 10 reality TV pitches for rap crews we'd like to see on the small screen.

The Rap Crew: Young Money The Potential Reality Show Title: We Are Young Money Why It Would Make For Great TV: Who exactly is in Young Money right now? Anyone care to take a guess? We obviously know that Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Drake rep for YMCMB. But what's up with Cory Gunz? Where's Gudda Gudda been? And does Lil Twist do anything besides crash Justin Bieber's cars? This show would answer those questions and give Wayne the opportunity to put out a few more artists sometime in the near future.

The Rap Crew: Maybach Music Group The Potential Reality Show Title: Self Made Why It Would Make For Great TV: Unlike a lot of rap crews, every member of MMG has something going on right now. From Rick Ross and Meek Mill to Wale and Stalley to Gunplay and Rockie Fresh, MMG is always on the move. So that would provide us with lots of different plots. Additionally, it seems like at least one MMG artist is always caught up in some drama. And you know a reality show is only as good as the drama it provides.

The Rap Crew: Odd Future The Potential Reality Show Title: Talking Goats & Other Weird Stuff That OFWGKTA Likes (working title) Why It Would Make For Great TV: Say what you want about Tyler, The Creator. But the guy is creative. We're guessing that if someone handed him a camera and told him to make a reality TV show about OF, he'd be successful. Would it be super weird and feature lots of dumb stuff? Of course. But isn't that essentially what every episode of Jackass was about? There's money to be made here, TV execs.

The Rap Crew: October's Very Own The Potential Reality Show Title: Crew Love Why It Would Make For Great TV: Most of the folks in Drake's rap crew aren't artists. They're guys that Drizzy has been down with since day one and they help guide his career along. They also frequently receive shout-outs in Drake's music. It would be nice to put faces to the names and to see what goes into building the OVO brand. Plus, Drake is constantly surrounded by other famous people. So even though this show would help shine the spotlight on some of Drake's closest homies, it wouldn't lack star power.

The Rap Crew: Naughty By Nature The Potential Reality Show Title: Naughtier Than Ever Why It Would Make For Great TV: We hadn't really thought about Naughty By Nature in recent years until Treach jumped on Twitter a week ago and kicked Vin Rock out of the group. Our question: Did the group even still exist?! Apparently so. And apparently, they have a whole bunch of behind-the-scenes drama going on right now. The only way we can see them solving it is to get in front of the camera and work out their differences in front of the world. Otherwise, we fear that no one will really care about their demise and they'll eventually fade from existence.

The Rap Crew: A$AP Mob The Potential Reality Show Title: Mob Mentality Why It Would Make For Great TV: The A$AP Mob is about more than just music. Sure, they first came to light because of A$AP Rocky's musical contributions. But from A$AP Ferg, who's trying to follow in Rocky's musical footsteps, to A$AP Bari, who's more focused on the fashion side, they've got a lot going on. And it'd be interesting to see how they're able to broker big deals, take over the music game and stay organized as one collective unit with so much going on.

The Rap Crew: Black Hippy The Potential Reality Show Title: Top Dawgs Why It Would Make For Great TV: Just about every other group here is pretty well established already. But outside of Kendrick Lamar, most of the Black Hippy members (Lamar, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, and Schoolboy Q) are still trying to find their way in the music business. They're doing it by releasing a ton of great music. But we can't help but wonder what goes into the day-to-day lives of these guys and what their label Top Dawg Entertainment is doing to turn them all into legit stars. It'd be interesting to see that all play out over time.

The Rap Crew: Taylor Gang The Potential Reality Show Title: Young, Wild & Free Why It Would Make For Great TV: Wiz Khalifa has a pretty diverse cast of characters signed to his label. There's a Southern legend (Juicy J), a former video vixen (Lola Monroe), and Wiz's protege (Chevy Woods), all trying to function as one cohesive unit. When you throw Wiz's fiancee Amber Rose, his newborn baby, and all of his other hopes and dreams into the mix, the goals of the group get even fuzzier. But it's clear that Wiz wants to do something with the Taylor Gang moving forward or else he wouldn't have signed so many acts to the label. This show would help make his vision clearer.

The Rap Crew: Slaughterhouse The Potential Reality Show Title: Our House Why It Would Make For Great TV: All four members of Slaughterhouse are unique individuals. If you follow any of them on Twitter, you already know that. So things must get pretty wild when they get together. There are some interesting dynamics at play, though. For instance, Joe Budden and Royce Da 5'9" are both trying their best to stay sober. Joell Ortiz is currently losing a bunch of weight and trying to take better care of himself. And Crooked-I is often isolated from the group out in Cali where he lives. When you combine all of these things, we think you would get one hell of a show. We've already seen what Budden can do on a reality TV show. Why not give his fellow SH members a chance to shine, too?

The Rap Crew: Wu-Tang Clan The Potential Reality Show Title: Wu-Tang Forever Why It Would Make For Great TV: There's a reason it takes Wu-Tang so long to complete, well, anything. From albums to concerts, everything this group signs up to take part in turns into a major production. We're guessing that's because there's a lot of drama behind the scenes. We can't blame them. There are eight rappers in the group (R.I.P. ODB), managers for each of those rappers, and other executives who all have a hand in making decisions on behalf of the crew. To be honest, we wonder how anything gets done at all when it comes to the Wu. This reality TV show would show us how one of the most legendary rap crews ever operates. You down, guys?
