10 Rappers Who Should Probably Cancel Their Twitter Accounts

September 12, 2013 - 4:50 pm by Chris Yuscavage

Gucci Mane is gone! Less than 48 hours after he went on an epic rant on Twitter and dissed just about everybody that he has ever worked with, Gucci deactivated his @gucci1017 Twitter account yesterday after claiming that he had been hacked the day before. We love Gucci. But between the multiple alleged hackings that he's undergone and the trouble his tweeting has caused, Twitter probably isn't for him.

Gucci Mane isn't the only rapper who should deactivate his account. From those who do nothing but cause trouble on Twitter to those who tweet so infrequently that it's not worth it, these are 10 rappers who should consider canceling their Twitter accounts.

Rapper: Eminem Twitter Handle: @Eminem Why He Should Cancel His Account: When Em first joined Twitter, everyone was super excited to see what he had to say. To date, more than 15 million people have followed him. But it's pretty clear that Em doesn't write his own tweets. Also, about 99 percent of his tweets are little more than promo tweets for some aspect of Em's career. We don't honestly expect him, er, his handlers to cancel his account. But we also are two seconds away from pressing the "Unfollow" button ourselves.

Rapper: Havoc Twitter Handle: @HAVOCMOBBDEEP Why He Should Cancel His Account: In the past year, Hav has had two major problems on Twitter. The first one involved him taking shots at Prodigy and then claiming that his Twitter account had been hacked. The second one involved him actually getting hacked and the hacker putting up naked photos of him on his account. In both instances, Hav was left embarrassed after the fact. So why even stick with Twitter and run the risk of something bad happening again?

Rapper: Shyne Twitter Handle: @OriginalShyne Why He Should Cancel His Account: Every few months, it feels like Shyne says something dumb (like the time he dissed Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city) or starts a beef with another rapper (Meek Mill, Game, Diddy, etc.) on Twitter and gets himself into the news for all the wrong reasons. Stop the vicious cycle, Shyne.

Rapper: Jay Z Twitter Handle: @S_C_ Why He Should Cancel His Account: Remember that time Jay Z jumped on Twitter and answered all of our questions? Ah, yes. That was fun. But that was more than two months ago, and Jay hasn't said a word on Twitter since then. He's also never going to be able to top that day as far as tweeting goes. So he might as well just quit while he's ahead.

Rapper: Jay Electronica Twitter Handle: @JayElectronica Why He Should Cancel His Account: Jay Elec has more than 330,000 followers—and just two tweets on his Twitter feed. Let us say that again: Jay Elec has more than 330,000 followers—AND JUST TWO TWEETS ON HIS TWITTER FEED. He's tweeted before, even ranted. So what exactly is the point of having a Twitter feed if you're not going to give fans anything at all?

Rapper: 50 Cent Twitter Handle: @50Cent Why He Should Cancel His Account: Most rappers need a social media site like Twitter to help them promote themselves. 50 Cent is good at handling that on his own, so his Twitter account is overkill when it comes to self-promo. Like, remember when he hashtagged everything with #SMSaudio for awhile? Yeah, that was annoying. Every now and then 50's Twitter is entertaining. But for the most part, it reads like one long ad.

Rapper: Azealia Banks Twitter Handle: @AZEALIABANKS Why She Should Cancel Her Account: Although she's toned it down a little recently, Azealia Banks has made way too many headlines in recent years for beefing on Twitter. From Iggy Azalea and Kreayshawn to T.I. and Jim Jones, Ms. Banks has beefed with everyone on Twitter. It's time for it to stop once and for all.

Rapper: Ludacris Twitter Handle: @Ludacris Why He Should Cancel His Account: Ludacris is a serial re-tweeter. Seriously, just take a look at the guy's Twitter feed. It goes something like this: Tweet, retweet, tweet about a new video, retweet, retweet, retweet, Instagram photo, retweet, tweet about a new song, retweet, retweet, retweet, retw…you get the point. LUDACRIS LOVES RETWEETING! And it's really $&^%*@! annoying.

Rapper: Nelly Twitter Handle: @Nelly_Mo Why He Should Cancel His Account: We get it, Nelly. You've got an album coming out. And a concert coming up. And a celebrity workout tape that's about to drop. But is that really all you know how to tweet about? If so, quit Twitter and go buy a billboard. It'll be more effective.

Rapper: Kanye West Twitter Handle: @kanyewest Why He Should Cancel His Account: It doesn't seem like Kanye enjoys his Twitter account. The only thing he uses it for is to promote the occasional song or video and to yell at people for leaking the occasional song or video that comes out before he wanted it to. Otherwise, he doesn't show a whole lot of love to his 9.8 million Twitter followers.
