25 Forgotten Drake Lyrics

September 23, 2013 - 4:28 pm by Max Weinstein

Drake may be the biggest rapper in the world right now—and the most quotable—but there are parts of his discography that many people have never heard before. Remember when he was Heartbreak Drake? He’s come a long way from playing basketball in a wheelchair, so pour yourself a glass of Pinot, fire up the hookah, and enjoy our roundup of 25 Forgotten Drake Lines.

“No time for no good girl; they hold on and they cling too much / I just want a hood bitch that tell me that I sing too much” —"We In This Bitch 1.5" Maybe one of the best lines he’s ever spit, if only for the shocking self-awareness and sense of humor that he demonstrates. This is the 1.5 version (?) of a track from DJ Drama’s album, so if you haven’t heard this song, you can thank Drama’s A&R for that decision. “From the beginning to the end / Know I’m into making history not into making friends” —On Gucci Mane's "Street Cred" Drake on a record called “Street Cred”? Doesn’t seem like a match. This track was probably swept under the rug due to branding or something. Drake precludes his “No New Friends” motto with this line, but it looks like Gucci doesn’t want to be friends with a “male groupie” anyway. “Puffin shisha, laid back fuckin’ with FIFA / what I get for the features, I wouldn’t fuck with me either” —On Nickelus F’s “Number 15” This was a bonus track on Nickelus F's Vices (which is heavy, by the way), hence why many haven’t heard it. Drake is stunting on people who cough up for his ridiculous feature price, but he doesn’t realize that he’s playing himself by talking about smoking hookah at the same time. Who still smokes hookah? “I done made a hunnid thousand dollars every season on that show / I been told I was next by a legendary that was on Death Row” —K-OS's “Faith Pt. 2” This is one hell of an underrated collaboration with the incredible Canadian MC K-OS (check out Joyful Rebellion if you don’t already know). We wonder which Death Row member he’s talking about, because we can’t imagine Suge bumping any of his music. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed] Photo Credit: Getty Images

“Fuck all that discreet shit, I get on some deep shit / I am 21, tell me who do I compete with?” —"Stuntin’" Those words have come to define a generation that idolizes Drizzy as the best rapper in the game. Him and Wayne kill every single line off this Dedication 3 highlight. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed] Photo Credit: Getty Images

“I smirk at a n---a if he still rocking braids / That just lets me know that we ain’t on the same page” —"Barry Bonds Freestyle" That was from 2007. Fast forward six years and, well…Pusha T has even got his beard braided now. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed] Photo Credit: Getty Images

“Bet you hear my name every single place that you go / Sippin’ on pink shit, but no it ain’t Nuvo / Slow the F down ‘fore yo ass is on Pluto” —Funkmaster Flex Freestyle The infamous Blackberry freestyle. I’m including this because my instigating ass hears a subtle Jay-Z jab in there, referring to Hov’s incredible “Grammy Family” freestyle, also on Flex’s show (“Everybody wanna hear me talk that money like Phil Rizzuto / but my mind is on Pluto”). I’m probably playing Mister Fantastic here, but I still like to entertain the possibility. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]

“To me it’s kinda gay if I’m saying hi to like eight guys / So I just walk past and keep it cool till the hate dies” —”Good Night and Good Luck (Aristo Diss)” Best believe you would never catch Drake saying anything even remotely offensive to the gay community these days. We doubt he’d even acknowledge this line, considering it’s not only icky, but also directed towards some low-level Canadian rapper named Aristo. “It’s Heartbreak Drake, I hate to see him so sad / I can son you, see a little me in your dad” —"Ransom" Feat. Lil’ Wayne Like “Stuntin'," these two are flawless on here. Between telling a girl that he’s so hot, she’s gotta ash him and directing newcomers towards Blues Clues, Drake is as clever on here as he’s ever been. Drake disrespecting someone’s father is about as (directly) aggressive as we’ll ever hear him. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed] Photo Credit: massappeal.com

“Ok I do it for the love / bunk bed flow, always one level above” —"The Winner" If Drake went to sleep away camp, he’d always let you get the bottom bunk. He’s just that nice of a guy. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed] Photo Credit: mypartyaid.com

“And when they talk about they past and lovers / and you get mad at the thought of her giving ass to others” —"Come Winter" Drake knows exactly how to cut to the heart of both sexes – by addressing jealousy directly. Now his music is clouded with crooning contemplations, but he used to get right to the point. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed] Photo Credit: imfmag.com

“I meet quotas while you rappers havin’ sleepovers / Spendin’ nights in the studio tryin to beat Hova / beatin’ the throne instead of bein’ ya own” —2006 Freestyle (Used for “Beautiful Music”) A couple things here: before he raps, Drake shrugs off haters because he knows girlfriends, moms and little brothers will be drooling over his music soon enough. Elsewhere in the verse, Drake also explains why he tucks his shoelaces in (what a mensch), but what’s funny about the “sleepovers” line is that Drake probably throws the best sleepovers – dinosaur pajamas, soda mixies, dirty late night stories filled with giggles past his bedtime. Don’t forget the Krazy Bones! [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]

“I can show you new things, have you feelin’ spiritual / Pastor Kerney Thomas on these hoes – miwacles” —On Baby's "4 My Town" This makes you wish we could hear a whole song of Drake mimicking speech impediments. “At the club, fake I.D. my record spins / Got me dancin’ right outside since these n----s won’t let me in” —"A.M. 2 P.M" Needless to say, Drake’s getting in whichever club he wants to these days, but given that Pharrell was turned away from a listening party for an artist whose career he basically started, you never know. “I’m like a waiter and you something like a hater / with trays in both hands, place an order I can cater” —"City Is Mine" Drake would be such a great waiter. Really nice, always checking how your meal is. He’d be scornful as hell, though. He’d smile in the faces of difficult patrons, but when he huddles up with the other servers he’d be talking all types of shit. This lyric is great because it makes you imagine Drake holding trays in each hand, palms up. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]
17
26

“Look, she got a saying there’s no Alice without the Tin Man / crib was 2 mil, plus I just bought a couch for 10 grand” —"Video Girl" Drake’s got a thing for interior decoration. We wonder if the same Fernando who moved Drake’s piano moved the $10,000 couch, too. Lord knows Drake doesn’t move his own furniture. You can picture him wincing when the couch accidentally brushes the walls. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]

26

“I’m all alone at home with my mom and grandma and ain’t nobody running with me / So if you got the heart to come in here and kill a lady, daughter and her grandson, n---a get the handgun” —"S.T.R.E.S.S." You’ve heard rappers ruthlessly claim that they’ll throw grenades through your momma’s momma’s crib, but this is some other shit. Not only is Drake inviting rivals to commit violence against his family (we doubt anyone beefing with Aubrey is about that life), but he’s actually trying to garner sympathy from them too. Toronto stand up. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]

26

"They like, ‘Damn who’s Drake? Where’s wheelchair Jimmy at?’ / On my Chris Brown shit, I’m still here, gimme that” —“The Presentation” Drake uses his crystal ball powers by referencing the past while predicting the future. He didn’t have to tell Chris Brown “gimme that” though, because somebody threw it to Drizzy anyway. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]

"They know the promoter paid you / you wouldn’ta come if somebody hadn’ta made you”—“Successful” (Unreleased Verse) Drake, all passive aggressive, recording a snarky verse and then not releasing it because he’s too scared to hurt some feelings. He sounds pretty ticked off. Drake is the guy who throws himself a birthday party but can’t believe that anyone who shows up really wants to be there. Self-deprecation is in these days. “I was birthed up top but was raised at the bottom of the map” —"Replacement Girl" (Feat. Trey Songz) Many forget that while Drakkard Noir is thoroughly Canadian, he spent plenty of time growing up in Memphis with his father Dennis, who was also a musician. People like to throw shade at the rapper’s apparently affected Southern twang, but there might be precedence for it after all. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]
22
26

“I be dreamin’ bout hoes and doin’ them live shows / Shirtless, that’s why I started to personal train” —"The Search" (Feat. Saukrates) Imagine Drake hitting the gym with a trainer like, “Listen man, I do this thing during my shows where I take my shirt off, so I don’t want ANY flab.” It sounds like a joke, but we bet he was dead ass when he wrote this. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed]

26

“I’ve never been the type, felt alike / My connection with n*ggas that wanna fight / over women, that’s not right” —"Baby Come With Me" Tell that to Greenhouse, dog. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed] Photo Credit: idolator.com
24
26

“I understand that you Afro, I’m tryna get to your centric” —“Smile” (Feat. Voyce) Picture Drake spitting that line to a girl in the club. This is the stuff that sitcoms are made of. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed] Photo Credit: blog.stack.com
25
26

“I hear you issuing threats, you need to kill the jive talk / Furthest thing from street bruh, that’s why I call you sidewalk” —"Exposed (Voyce Diss)" Uuuuuh….not exactly the strongest punchline ever invented, but he does make up for it later when he says that this is a diss from your sister’s favorite rapper. “So they don’t like me, and throw parties and yet they never invite me / I can’t lie, sometimes it bother me slightly” —“One Man Show” So that’s why Drake wants a high school reunion: for everyone to walk through metal detectors and pay for bullying him. Drake stays waiting for that “come through” text but he never gets it. He probably isn’t the best at beer pong.
