5 Rappers Who've Beefed With Radio Personalities
Dame Dash’s inflammatory remarks about key music industry figures is still burning bridges. Former Def Jam executive Joie Manda recently responded to Dame calling him a “culture vulture.” And Hot 97’s DJ Funk Flex questioned Dame’s claims while on air, arguing that Def Jam put millions of dollars behind the Roc.
Public Enemy frontman Chuck D also joined the mix, claiming that Hot 97's Summer Jam represents a “sloppy representation” of New York hip-hop. Hot 97 host Peter Rosenberg fired back, stating that no one appointed Chuck D president of hip-hop. Rosenberg also questioned Chuck D's support for the culture.
Of course, radio personalities and rappers are known to bump heads. Check out this list of rappers who've had beef with their local DJs.

Trae The Truth Vs. The Box
In 2009, Houston rapper Trae the Truth held his annual “Trae Day” at Texas Southern University. The fun day in Houston turned into a fiasco after gunshots rang out, leaving six people shot. Radio personality Nete Inyangumia, from Houston’s hip-hop station The Box, allegedly said the shooting was a result of Trae’s violent lyrics. This spurred an on-air argument between Trae and those at 97.9, which allegedly led to the station banning Trae’s music. It’s also alleged that 97.9 DJs Krack Nuttz and Brandi Garcia were fired for playing Trae’s music after the verbal altercations with Trae. Photo Credit: Getty Images
Kanye West Vs. Charlamagne Tha God
The hilarious and opinionated Charlamagne tha God, of Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, has ruffled feathers during his career. The controversial jock touched the nerves of rappers like Drake and Trinidad James and made Lil Mama cru, to name a few. But of his recent showdowns came when Charlemagne told Kanye West that Ye's Yeezus album was wack. Photo Credit: Getty Images
Wale Vs. 92Q
Wale is known for having a short fuse. The D.C. rapper lost all understanding after Baltimore’s 92Q radio personalities Porkchop and Squirrel Wyde played a diss song by local rapper Bossman that was aimed at Wale. The irate MMG rapper called the station to express how he felt. [videoembed size="full_width" alignment="center"][/videoembed] Photo Credit: Getty Images
Mistah Fab Vs. 106 KMEL
In 2008, Oakland MC Mistah FAB, for unknown reasons, had beef with Oakland’s 106 KMEL’s program director Stacy Cunningham and radio personality Big Von. Even at the height of Oakland's Hyphy movement, FAB was allegedly banned from the radio station. It’s also alleged that the popular single, “Life of the Party,” featuring Snoop Dogg and Too $hort, was banned from KMEL because FAB was featured on the song. Photo Credit: Getty Images
Jay Z Vs. Star
Aggressive radio personality Star, formerly of Power 105.1’s Star and Buc Wild Show, shot a low-blow at the late songstress Aaliyah, who died in plane crash in 2001. While on-air, Star played a snippet of a woman screaming and a plane crashing, which earned him a suspension from the station. Of course, this incident touched Dame Dash, who was dating Aaliyah at the time. This incident also inspired Jay Z to address the situation in his tribute song to Aaliyah, “I Miss You.” Hov rapped, “Now, Star mad I won’t grant him an interview/Now, he dissing me ‘cause he dissed you/Can you believe the nerve of this dude/’Cause of your memory I won’t bring the pistols.” Photo Credit: Getty Images
